A press release from the Hoover Police Department sent Monday night revealed additional details concerning the incident involving Jeffery Dewayne Mixon.

A 19-year-old female who called police about murder victim Victoria Jeanetta Morrow, 34, also reported that she and Victoria’s 18-year-old daughter had been physically beaten and bound by Mixon.

“The Hoover Police Department sends its deepest sympathies to the Morrow family and friends,” Hoover Police Department Capt. Gregg Rector said.

When police responded to the scene at Cypress Garden Apartments at 12:13 p.m. they found the teenage girls bound in the parking lot.

“Both had their hands and feet bound with duct tape, but both were able to escape the apartment after the suspect fled,” Rector said. “The 19-year-old was also sexually assaulted.”

Officers discovered Morrow in an upstairs bedroom, and Hoover Fire Department paramedics pronounced her dead on the scene.

“Preliminary indications are that she was assaulted by the suspect with his hands and a knife,” Rector said.

The two surviving victims provided officers with Mixon’s identity and details about his getaway vehicle. A “Be on the lookout” advisory was then broadcast to surrounding agencies, including the Selma Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeffery reportedly left the scene with his 5-year-old daughter McKenzie Mixon, so an AMBER alert was issued for the missing child. The alert was cancelled Monday afternoon, after the child was found safe and unarmed at a relative’s home in the Selma area.

“There was increased urgency to arrest this subject because he left the crime scene with his 5-year-old daughter,” Rector said. “He and the deceased victim, mother of the 5-year-old, had previous disputes over visitation arrangements.”

Jeffery surrendered at the Dallas County Jail Monday at approximately 2:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, he was charged with four counts of capital murder during first-degree kidnapping, one count of capital murder during first-degree burglary, one count of capital murder during first-degree robbery, one count of capital murder during first-degree sodomy, one count of capital murder during first-degree rape and one count of second-degree assault.

Jeffery was transported Tuesday to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
