After successful regular seasons, Meadowview Christian will have three teams gunning for state basketball championships.

The Trojans boys won Division I, region B, area II of the ACAA and get to bypass the sub-state round of the postseason, according to head coach John Robert Morton.

Meadowview will participate in the ACAA state tournament, which will be played at the Oxford Civic Center Feb. 19-21.

When that date arrives, Meadowview’s boys  (13-4) will have played only one game in the last 24 days. Morton said to keep his team ready, he will likely hold scrimmage games against former Trojans’ players.

“Having the whole family there to support this group of kids is important,” Morton said. “Having past players who enjoy the game and playing the game the correct way and helping Meadowview in general makes things easier because I don’t have to schedule a game with somebody. I can just pick up the phone and have a group of guys [there].”

The Trojans’ varsity girls (13-4) will participate in the sub-state round when they play at defending state champion Victory Christian Feb. 12.

Meadowview swept Victory Christian this season and Morton said his team should have a lot of confidence because of it, but that it won’t be easy to win on the road.

“It’s the toughest venue to play in that we’ve played in all year,” Morton said. “It’ll be a great test for the girls and we’ll see how good we are.”

The varsity teams aren’t the only Meadowview basketball teams still in action.

The Trojans’ junior varsity squad (10-7) will host a sub-state game Monday against Cahawba Christian at 4 p.m.
