Two winter storm systems are headed toward Alabama this week, and there is a chance of snow and freezing precipitation for the second time in a week.
While snow and ice are in the forecast for northern counties, people in Selma and Dallas County should expect to see only rain during the week.
“As far as Selma goes, we’re thinking [the precipitation] will be all rain with the winter stuff staying just to the north and west of Dallas County,” said Jason Davis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
The first round of rain for Dallas County is expected to move out early Tuesday, with a small chance of freezing rain lasting to midday.
The NWS is expecting a second system to bring even more rain late Tuesday and early Wednesday.
According to the NWS, the chance for a winter mix of precipitation is north of Demopolis with the possibility of minor accumulation.
“For Wednesday’s [system] we have most of the snow happening up around the I-20 corridor and a little to the south of there and making it as far south as Demopolis,” Davis said.
While the system could shift south, the NWS is not expecting there to be snow as far south as Selma.
Temperatures will stay in the 30s for most of the week, with the weekend seeing a warming trend up to the 50s and 60s, according to Davis
