One Selma man was stabbed multiples times Friday night, while another man was shot multiple times in a separate, unrelated incident.

According to a press release from Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department, Brenda Jean Burns, 38, was arrested around 11:57 p.m. Friday night for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend multiple times with a kitchen knife after the two were arguing.

According to the release, the argument started on the phone and later continued outside of the couple’s residence on the 1100 block of Fifth Avenue.

After the argument escalated, Burns allegedly went inside the home and came out with a knife. According to Muhannad, Burns’ boyfriend was able to get the knife away from her after being stabbed once.

After going back inside, Burns allegedly came outside with another knife and stabbed her boyfriend a second time. The victim suffered stab wounds to the head and chest.

He was treated at Vaughan Regional Medical Center Emergency Room and later released.

Burns was also treated at the emergency room for cut wounds to her hand, but was later arrested. She was charged with first-degree domestic violence assault, which is a class B felony and punishable by up 20 years in prison and fines of up to $30,000.

After being booked, Burns was transported to the Dallas County Jail with a $60,000 bond.

An unrelated shooting on the 200 block of First Avenue has the Selma Police Department searching for answers.

According to a press release, a 20-year-old male was shot around 9:30 p.m. Friday. When officers arrived on scene, the victim had already been transported to the emergency room.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and lower left side. After being stabilized, the 20-year-old was transported to a Montgomery hospital for further treatment.

According to the release, the victim was unable to provide police with information about the shooter or what happened.
