The Old Depot Museum is bringing a little Cajun flavor to the Queen City for its Low Country Boil on April 16.
More than 300 people attended in 2014 and approximately 100 tickets have already been sold for this year’s boil. The museum is selling 350 tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.
Old Depot Museum curator Beth Spivey said she is expecting to sell out of tickets based on the amount of interest people have in the event.
“People have been asking me about this all year long,” Spivey said. “It’s amazing.”
Not only does the boil offer the community a tasty meal, but it also invites them in for an up close look at the changes that have been taking place at the museum.
“It’s another way that people can come to the museum and see all the changes that are being made because it’s something new all the time,” Spivey said.
Guests will also hear a live Cajun band — Glen Dugas and the Back Door Band from Louisiana.
“We’re going to have a live Cajun band from southwest Louisiana that’s going to play,” Spivey said. “I’m excited because this will be the first time we’ve ever had a live Cajun band.”
The event has become a vital fundraiser for the museum over the last three years.
“Besides the holiday house, this is our biggest fundraiser,” Spivey said. “[I hope] people will see where their money has been going and how proud we should be of Selma’s history.”
Spivey said the museum plans to use money raised to purchase better lights, frames and display cases.
Tickets for the event are $25 and can be purchased at the Old Depot Museum.
“That $25 gives you all the food and the live band and then seeing the museum in a very relaxed setting,” Spivey said. “It’s for everybody. It’s a family event.”
