Wallace Community College Selma’s men’s basketball team will have a new coach next week, according to athletic director Marcus Hannah.
Hannah said the interview process will start Tuesday and that he expects to name a coach on Wednesday.
He said there are nine applicants.
“We are trying to find someone who is a great fit for the school, the kids and the community,” Hannah said. “That process is taking place now. We have some good applicants on board right now.”
Whoever gets the position would fill the role left behind by former coach Foster Davis. Hannah would not discuss the details of Davis not returning to the program, but said he knew two weeks ago that he would be in search of a new coach.
“He stabilized the program and did a great job,” Hannah said of Davis.
The men’s basketball program made it to the quarterfinals of the Alabama Community College Conference state tournament this past year under Davis, who coached the Patriots for three years.
“We came in third or fourth in the conference I think the last three years, and that’s out of eight teams in the southern conference,” Hannah said.
Wallace held signing day last Wednesday and added three players to the men’s program despite not yet having a head coach in place. Hannah said that will change soon.
He hopes to name someone as the head coach by the middle of the week.
