Anyone who is raising cattle and wants to make sure they’re producing a quality animal will benefit from the workshop, according to Dallas County Extension Coordinator Callie Nelson.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for people in this area to get some much needed education,” Nelson said. “This is a really good thing to be able to get some quality beef cattle production education right here at home.”

Rotating stations will be set up at the event, where individuals will be divided into small groups.

Alabama Cooperative Extension System instructors will provide hands-on training. Seven areas will be covered, including planning hay needs, feeding, dehorning and castration.

Nelson said she often receives calls from people who want to start their own farm and raise beef cattle.

For those who already know a thing or two about raising beef cattle, the workshop may still provide valuable information.

“The speakers will talk about the latest information in various areas,” Nelson said. “There are a lot of people who are already in the cattle business, but there is new research coming out everyday.”

She said the workshop would be great for beginners to get into cattle farming.
