The Selma Charity League Yard Sale and barbecue to benefit Grow Selma community garden is today.
Selma Charity League president Christina Siddens said members are looking forward to the yard sale and that the community stepped up to donate items to the cause. The sale will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m.
“We’ve got lots of items, and lots of clothes,” she said. “We also have lots of kitchenware, bikes, books, games and really all kinds of stuff.”
Weather won’t be a factor for the sale since it will be held inside the old Phillies Cigar Plant.
Siddens said she has talked with a lot of people who said they might stop by the sale.
“There are items and clothes that still have the tag on them. This is benefiting Grow Selma, and we’ll be giving back to the community,” Siddens said.
To top the day off, $5 barbecue plates will be sold at the site, which will become the Mill Village Community Garden. The barbecue will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.
Hancocks Barbeque, KFC and Tally-Ho Restaurant are helping with the food. Founding member of the Black Belt Benefit Group, Clay Carmichael thanked the restaurants for their help.
In fact the barbecue isn’t just for the community garden, but residents near the future garden.
“We want the neighborhood to come, and we want to meet everybody,” Carmichael said.
