AHSAA state track and field: Who qualified?

EDITOR’S NOTE: Sectional qualifying for the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s track and field championships were held at venues around the state Friday and Saturday. The qualifiers determined which athletes would move on to the state championships, which will be held in Cullman (1A-3A) and Gulf Shores (4A-7A) April 30-May 2.  All results were provided by www.al.milesplit.com. Here’s a rundown on which area athletes made the cut:

 

Bears send five athletes to state championships

TUSCALOOSA — Keith, Ellwood Christian and Selma High School were among the teams with athletes trying to qualify for the AHSAA track championships at Paul Bryant High School Friday and Saturday.

The Bears had six athletes make the cut: Markeisha Irby in the 100-meter dash; Quomila Johnigan in the 200-meter dash, Jeremiah Campbell in the 100-meter dash; Domonique Jones in the 400-meter dash; and Travis Goldsby in the 200-meter dash.

Ellwood Christian qualified in the 4×100 meter relay and also had Jonathan Pettway make the cut in the 800-meter dash.

Selma High did not have anyone qualify.

 

Panthers’ Davis makes the cut in high jump

SMITHS STATION — Southside’s Christopher Davis qualified for state in the high jump after finishing second in the qualifier at Smiths Station. The Panthers’ boys 4×100 meter relay team also qualified to compete in Gulf Shores.

 

Hornets’ Parker, Hardison qualify in two events

BEAUREGARD — Dallas County will have a handful of Hornets in Gulf Shores next week after a successful weekend at Beauregard High School.

Kandyce Hardison qualified Saturday in the discus after qualifying Friday in the javelin. Quintavis Parker will also participate in two events after qualifying in the110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles Saturday. Hardison and Parker will join Marquel Brenson and Caleb McDougal, who both qualified Friday, as Hornets in Gulf Shores. Brenson qualified in the shot put and McDougal in the discus.
