There will be plenty of competition Tuesday at Southside High School, when the Panthers host their annual boys basketball playdate.
The field will include seven teams, including Dallas County based Southside, Ellwood Christian and Keith. Clarke County, Sumter Center, Greenville and Autaugaville are also taking part.
“We’ve got good 1A talent and 4A and 5A talent coming in so we are just excited to have everybody,” Southside head coach Cedric Brown said. “We really just want to get better as a team. I think all coaches would be in agreement that we really just want to get better as a team.”
With a young team, Brown is planning to mix up his lineup throughout the summer so all of his players can gain experience.
“I don’t always play the veteran guys against other veterans. Sometimes I put the JV guys against the veterans to see how they react and see how mature they are,” Brown said.
Each team will play three games apiece. Each game will last 20 minutes with a running clock, except for in the final two minutes. Admission is $2. The playdate starts at 10 a.m. and the final games are scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
Southside will play Sumter Central, Autaugaville and Ellwood Christian. Ellwood will face Clarke County and Autaugaville. Keith will take on Greenville, Sumter Central and Clarke County.
