As part of the One Hot Summer Series, the Selma City Council will host Soul Food Sunday this afternoon at the St. James Hotel.

“We’ve hosted the fundraiser in the past through St. James’ transitions,” said Councilman Sam Randolph. “The council got together, and we decided that we need to let people know that St. James Hotel is open and providing quality meals for the people in the community.”

The menu will include collard greens, black-eyed-peas, macaroni and cheese, cornbread and the choice of either baked or fried chicken. The event will host both dine-in and curbside services for $10 a plate. Other menu items can be added for additional costs.

“Come on out on a Sunday after church and support St. James. You don’t have to get out of your car, we can just bring it to you,” Randolph said.

There will be multiple door prizes given out. The pastor appreciation door prize will be an on-the-house meal for the pastor and wife of whichever church has the most members in attendance between noon and 1:30 p.m. as well as between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The secret door prize is said to be as easy as “pie.” Find it and your meal is on the house.

The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the late afternoon. Along with food, the location will also harbor live gospel jazz by Terry Chestnut. The $10 per plate charge can be paid at the door and will go to the historic St. James Hotel in ensuring its upkeep.

“We’re asking the community to come out to support this great event and the One Hot Summer Series,” Randolph said.

He also added to be on the lookout for the other events that the Selma City Council has planned every weekend for the rest of the summer.
