Citizens of Selma should show more support for city organized events in the future

We are disappointed more citizens didn’t show up for the city of Selma’s Fourth of July Street Festival.
The city hired bands, put up a stage and shut down Water Avenue to give people a weekend full of entertainment, but the crowd was missing.
There was only a couple of dozen people in the audience Friday night as the headliner, Reggie Hines, took the stage to perform for the Queen City.
The weekend was full of rain, but the city carried on with the planned festivities.
People complain about nothing to do in Selma, but the city didn’t fail to provide its citizens with something to do this past weekend.
Not only were there bands, but there was also family fun day Saturday and Gospel on the Green Sunday. The entertainment was there, but the people of Selma weren’t there to support it.
The next time you are bored and have nothing to do, call the city and see what they have planned. The city does offer fun events for the family and events throughout the rest of summer.
We should all go ahead and mark our calendars for Labor Day. That is when the city will debut the amphitheater with the Riverfront Park Music and Arts Festival.
