A Selma man accused of robbing Cahaba Furniture last month pleaded guilty to the charge Tuesday in Dallas County Circuit Court.
Fredrick Brown, 25, also entered guilty pleas to unrelated charges of receiving stolen property and theft of property, Fourth Judicial Assistant District Attorney John Oxford said.
Circuit Court Judge Jack Meigs issued a sentence of 30 years to serve in prison.
Alston Keith and Cecil Fields represented Brown. Oxford represented the district attorney’s office.
Brown’s victim, storeowner Kim Harris, said she is relieved after hearing of the guilty plea and the sentence.
“He got what he deserved,” she said. “I’m glad that justice was served. Now he won’t be able to hurt anyone else.”
On Nov. 1, Brown entered the Cahaba Furniture Store at about 11:50 a.m., gave a note to the clerk demanding money and threatened use of a handgun.
Harris was on the telephone with her daughter at the time. Brown gave her the note, which also said he would kill everyone else in the store if his demands weren’t met.
Harris opened the register and gave Brown about $575. She dialed 911 and Brown left the store, headed toward Lauderdale Street and Water Avenue.
A number of people on the street saw Brown as he darted down an alley. The camera at RBC Bank caught video footage of the robber as he left.
