Selma police are searching for leads to help in the arrest of a person or people who walked up at the front of a house in the 1300 block of Washington Street last week and shot a man.
Police Detective Sgt. Tori Neely said the victim was shot in the leg one time. The event occurred shortly before midnight Friday.
The victim was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center and later to a trauma center. He died on the way to the trauma center, Neely said.
“It was an arterial bleed,” Neely said.
Police do not identify victims of crimes.
A person at the scene, who did not wish to be identified for fear of retribution, said neighbors around her heard a gunshot. By the time neighbors poured out of their houses and others came down the street, the victim was laying on the ground in front of the house.
“He was responsive,” she said.
Some onlookers called for an ambulance and the police, which arrived shortly.
Some witnesses said the victim was in shock and refused treatment.
“He didn’t refuse treatment,” Neely said. “He was pretty much in shock.”
Neely said police have no suspects.
“We are working to develop leads and need the public’s assistance,” he said.
Anybody with information on the case is asked to contact the Selma Police Department’s secret witness line at (334) 874-2190 or Crimestoppers at 877-3530.
