Selma school board approves new hires

The Selma City Schools board of education approved 21 new hires at its meeting Monday.

Chimeria Evans will become Selma High School’s assistant principal 25 percent of the time, while also being an instructional coach at the school. Several teachers and staff members were also hire, including: Monika Maxwell and Gloria Jerkins, English language arts; Andrew Blake Denton, social science; and Geneva Johnson, CNP cook.

R.B. Hudson Middle School will also have some new faces this fall. Dyphelia Threat-Thrash will help lead the school as a new assistant principal. New teachers include: Carol Vance, social studies, and Tracy Cooks, special needs.

The School of Discovery Genesis Center will have Javonne Roman as a new math teacher.

Sophia P. Kingston Elementary will have a new fifth grade teacher in Glencile Greenlea.

Edgewood Elementary will also have a new fifth grade teacher. Shekitha White-Crowell will fill that role. The school will also have a couple of additional new teachers: Christal Patterson, first grade, and Judith Daniels Moore, special needs.

Payne Elementary School’s new media specialist is Cathryn Dozier. Dionne Reese was hired as a second grade teacher. Michael Powell will be a school custodian.

Clark Elementary School also added some staff members as Katrina Robinson will become the school’s secretary and bookkeeper. Jesse Johnson started as the school’s custodian on July 15. Michael Muse is now a CNP custodian.

Meadowview Elementary School’s new CNP manager is Marilyn Shumate, while Octavia Davis-Reeves was hired as a CNP cook.
