The Wednesday snow flurry was accompanied by a flurry of support for the Salvation Army Angel Tree.

Heading into the daylong toy drive, which was a collaboration between the Salvation Army of Selma and Alex FM, more than 500 angels remained. By 4 p.m., all had been adopted.

Still, Major Eric Roberts said, there is work to be done.

“We don’t have any that were not adopted,” he said. “But we do have some that were adopted and not returned. That’s what we’re trying to get the word out about now.”

Major Tonya Roberts said time is running thin, so it is especially important that people answer the call.

“We are asking people now to please return their gifts,” she said. “We have 275 gifts that are not accounted for and tomorrow (Thursday) is the day to do that. We are asking people to please, please, please turn in your gifts.”

Despite tough weather conditions, Tonya said the response from the community was more than they could have ever expected.

“We’ve had a great response,” she said. “We had one anonymous donation from a person who took 200 angels and we just finished the shopping for that. We are really grateful for the response we got from the community.”

Starting Thursday, she said the group’s efforts will be concentrated at the Franklin Street office.

“We’re going to have somebody there, so that’s the place,” she said. “We’re going to pull everybody from Walmart and the mall and have them at our office.”

Angel gifts, she said, can be returned to the 2104 Franklin St. office.
