Ward 4 work to be honored

Hard work and support for Ward 4 will be recognized Monday with the second annual End of the Year Next Level celebration at 4 p.m. at the Convention Center.
The event, Selma City Councilwoman Angela Benjamin said, was tagged with the phrase “next level” because that is where she wants to take the efforts to improve the lives of the people in her district.
“That’s where we want to go,” she said. “We want to go to the next level of excellence.”
The gathering, Benjamin said, is an informal event so there is no need to rush home from work, change clothes or eat.
“Come as you are and we’ll feed you when you get there,” she said.
Benjamin said she also encourages anyone that attends to bring their children.
The event will recognize small businesses, business owners and churches in Ward 4 and allow them to provide more information about themselves.
The event, Benjamin said, was moved earlier in the afternoon and indoors to accomodate seniors and avoid the cool conditions.
“Last year it was an indoor event, but this year we are moving it inside to keep everyone warm,” she said. “We are also having it a little earlier so all the seniors who attend will be able to get home before dark.”
Several awards will be given for people who have donated time and efforts, especially with the Youth Conference.
The top award, Benjamin said, will be the Butterfly Award, which was given to Ronald Johns in 2009.
