The Morgan Academy Pee Wee football team completed a truly perfect season Monday night with a 36-0 victory over Southern Academy.

The Senators (7-0) did not lose a game all season but more impressively also didn’t give up a single point the entire year. Morgan outscored its opponents 188-0 this season.

“I couldn’t be prouder, to win all the games but to also keep everybody scoreless all year,” said Morgan coach Rick Williams. “This is probably my sixth year coaching Termites and Pee Wees at Morgan, and we’ve never done that before. They’ve worked really hard. I’m really proud of them.”

The team, which consists of fifth and sixth graders, finished its season in style, dominating from the first snap.

Matthew King went 40 yards for a Morgan touchdown just over a minute into the game to put the Senators up 6-0. Wilks Chittom added a two-point conversion and from there the rout was on.

Just like the rest of the season, it was a team effort Monday night. Every Senator played in the game and every player had an impact.

“We stressed to the line to block until the whistle blew, to everybody 11 people run on defense,” Williams said. “They were a tough group.”

After Rhyne Williams scored one of his two touchdowns from 30 yards out, King added a second score on a 59-yard run to put Morgan up 20-0 in the second quarter. Chittom added another two-point conversion to extend the lead to 22-0.

At that point, the question was no longer whether the Senators could go unbeaten, but whether the defense could go another three quarters without allowing a score.  Southern’s best drive of the night came right before halftime as the Cougars reached the Morgan 28.

With 0.4 seconds left, Southern’s quarterback lofted a pass toward the end zone, but it was intercepted by Morgan’s Andrew Thomas. Perfect season saved.

Williams added his second touchdown on a 48-yard run in the third quarter to put the Senators up 28-0. John Beekman Youngblood’s conversion run tacked on two more points.

The final score of the game came on a double reverse run by Clay Beers, who scored from 34 yards out with just over a minute to play.

Every time Southern moved into Morgan territory, the Senators made a play. John Allen Ingram’s interception ended the Cougars only real chance to score in the second half.

The sixth graders on Morgan’s team have not lost in three years, as the group was tied once in 2013 and once in 2014. This year their closest game was a 16-0 win over Wilcox.

“We won the [coin] toss in every single game, so maybe it was just our year,” Williams said.
