The popular Lunch at the Library events continue Thursday with a program that will celebrate Alabama’s Black Belt.
Dr. Valerie Pope Burnes and Robin McDonalds, authors of “Visions of The Black Belt,” will speak on their new publication.
The two have collaborated to produce, along with the University of Alabama Press, a written and pictorial look at the Black Belt’s unique people, places, tastes and sounds.
The book includes two maps and more than 370 color photographs from communities like Selma, Camden, Eutaw, Tuskegee, Greenville and Demopolis.
“‘Visions of the Black Belt’ is just a stunning book — a great accomplishment and a great testimony to the land we love and reason we call the Black Belt home,” said Becky Nicholas, director of the Selma-Dallas County Public Library.
Both authors will be present for Thursday’s program, which begins at noon. Reservations for lunch may be made by calling 874-1725.
