The Selma City Council will try again with another gun buy back in six months.
The most recent buy back was held this past weekend at Macedonia Apostolic Church resulted in 51 guns off the streets.
However, some city council members expressed concern that a guns-rights group filmed the buy back from the street and bought some weapons from citizens.
Councilman Michael Johnson, who heads the council’s public safety committee, said some changes would be made.
This year marked the first time the buy back didn’t hit its $5,000 goal, which would be between 65 and 70 guns.
Johnson said if he had to he would move to buy back into his fenced-in business to ensure anonymity.
“The thing we have been doing is no questions asked — period,” Johnson said.
Johnson hopes the approximately $1,200 left over from last week’s sale can be added to additional money for another buy back in the spring.
“There are more guns that we know are out there,” Johnson said.
