St. James employees to get one-time raises too

City employees who work at the St. James Hotel will be given one-time raises like other workers.
Back in October, the city approved one-time raises for employees. The raises ranged from $200 to $1,600 depending on whether an employee was full-time or part-time and how long they have been with the city.
The Selma City Council unanimously voted to extend those raises Tuesday to include the 24 employees who work at the hotel.
Most of the employees are part-time and have been with the city less than a year, according to Mayor George Evans.
City treasurer Ronita Wade said most of them make between minimum wage and $9 an hour.
The majority of the St. James workers will earn a $200 raise. The combined amount for all the employees was just under $5,000.
Across all city departments, the raises totaled approximately $400,000, which will come from the city’s half-cent sales tax.
This marks the third consecutive year the city of Selma has given a one-time lump sum raise to all employees either in November or December.
