Starting the day after Thanksgiving, Cedar Hill Assisted Living will offer the community a ride through a Christmas wonderland.

There will be music and lights for those wanting to get in the Christmas spirit, as they ride through the grounds of Vaughn Place Senior Living.

But it’s one particular night that Karen Morris, community health educator at Vaughan Place Senior Living, is really looking forward to.

The Selma Rotary Club is combining forces with Cedar Hill to have Vaughan Place Luminary Lane Dec. 17 from 6-8 p.m.

“[We] just thought it would be something good with people coming through, riding through looking at the lights and just something that the community could be involved in,” Morris said.

“We just hear people tell us all the time how much they enjoy riding through.”

Although they have had lights and luminaries in the past, this is the first time they are offering the public the opportunity to buy a luminary in memory or honor of a loved one.

To go along with the luminaries, the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce will be there with special guests Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Morris said the Rotary Club will also be serving refreshments like hot chocolate and coffee.

“I think it will be fun to have Mrs. Claus join Mr. Claus for this and for the kids to come in and be there with [the residents in] assisted living,” Morris said.

“It’s always fun to do something with the residents and see the excitement. They love having people come in and the atmosphere is completely different on a night like when we had our trees.”

Morris said the residents enjoy special events like this one, and she knows they will be looking forward to it.

“They enjoy people coming through and visiting with them. It’s just festive and it just kind of puts it all in perspective when you talk about Christmas and the true meaning of Christmas and what it’s all about,” Morris said.

“They just enjoy the activities that go on, people coming in and out, they enjoy the socializing and I just think it’s good for people to come to Cedar Hill to see what the facility is like.”

Morris did suggest that those wanting to visit the Clauses to park across from Vaughan and walk over.

The deadline to buy a luminary is Dec. 14 and they are $10 each.

Those wanting to buy a luminary can stop by Cedar Hill or visit the Cedar Hill Assisted Living Facebook page to get a form.

Morris said those interested can also write in memory of or in honor of a particular person on a piece of paper and mail it with a check to Cedar Hill Assisted Living 1300 Old Orrville Road, attention Mary Latham.

The luminaries will be plastic, and can be picked up the following day for the owners to keep.
