Here’s an update on how players with a Selma or Dallas County connection are faring this basketball season:

William Lee

Dallas County High School alumnus William Lee recorded his most well-rounded game of the season Tuesday night for the UAB Blazers.

Lee scored 8 points on 4-for-9 shooting and added five rebounds and five blocks.

The five blocks were the second highest total of Lee’s young college career. He had an eight-block game against Middle Tennessee in February.

After a dismal shooting start to the year, Lee is starting to find his range. He was 7-for 24 (29 percent) in his first four games, but has gone 11-for-25 (44 percent) in his last three. The forward is still struggling from the free throw line, making only 4-of-15 attempts this year.

Lee is averaging 5.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game in seven UAB games this year.

UAB will play at Illinois State Saturday at 7 p.m.

 

Jerrod Moorer

Twenty-one seems to be the lucky number for Dallas County High School alumnus Jerrod Moorer and Iowa Central Community College.

Moorer has scored 21 points three times this season, including twice in games during Thanksgiving week against John Wood Community College and Upper County England.

In all three games where Moorer has scored 21 points this year, Iowa Central has won.

He’s averaging 23.5 points per game this year and shooting 70 percent from the 3-point line. He’s also making 90.9 percent of his free throw attempts. Iowa Central will host the Triton Classic Friday.

 

 

 

Jeffery Mack

Former Southside High School and Wallace Community College Selma star Jeffery Mack scored 27 points Friday as his Vorhees’ team fell to Lindsey Wilson 85-78.  The 27 points Mack scored were his second highest total of the year, trailing only a 30 point performance against Talladega College.

Mack leads Vorhees in scoring with 17.6 points per game. He’s scored in double figures in 11 of the team’s 12 games this season.

Vorhees will play Morris, South Carolina Saturday.

 

Jasmine Peeples

Selma High School alumnae Jasmine Peeples recorded six points and five rebounds in Alabama State’s 80-54 loss to Georgia Tech last week.

The reigning SWAC defensive player of the year is averaging 6.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Hornets (1-3).

Alabama State will play South Alabama Thursday in Montgomery.
