Garbage registration with new company ongoing

Representatives with Sea Coast Disposal were at Christian Outreach Alliance Food Pantry Saturday registering customers for garbage service and answering questions.
Sea Coast is taking over garbage service from Advanced Disposal, whose contract with the city of Selma runs out at the end of January. Angela Green, a customer service representative who is working in the Selma office for Sea Coast, said there were several common questions asked Saturday.
The main concern for customers was when their trash cart will be delivered.
“We ask that you pay $40, which is $20 per month, and that covers February and March,” Green said. “As long as you get that payment in before Jan. 14, 2016, you will get your cart delivered to your home.”
Green said Sea Coast will start delivering carts on Jan. 15 and the process will be completed before trash pickup starts in February.
“If you pay for it, you’ll have your can before Feb. 1,” Green said.
Customers were also asking about trash pickup days, which haven’t changed for most people.
Anyone who has their trash picked up on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday will still have their trash picked up on those days.
The only change is for customers who currently have their trash collected on Monday. Those customers will now have their trash collected on Friday.
Another important deadline is for customers that have been exempt or have had backdoor service.
Green said those customers need to go to city hall and renew that status by Dec. 31.
Saturday’s registration day was in Ward 3, but Sea Coast is in the process of going to each ward on a weekend through Jan. 9.
Those who sign up during the registration events are given the option to pay that day, but do not have to. Green said customers can mail in payment to P.O. Box 365 Selma, AL 36702-0365 or go online to www.seacoastdisposal.com.
The city is also in the process of holding a series of town hall meetings to make the transition to Sea Coast as smooth as possible. The next town hall meeting is scheduled for Dec. 14 at Cedar Park Elementary School at 6 p.m.
Sea Coast is currently operating out of a building located at 521 Bell Road, but is in the transition of moving into the old Wal-Mart building on Highland Avenue between Burger King and Riverdale Credit Union. The new location’s address will be 212B Highland Avenue.
Green anticipates Sea Coast will be moved into its permanent building by January, but didn’t have a definite time the move will be completed. Sea Coast can be reached at 874-7320.
