Year In Review: Center field wall honors Reece at Bloch Park

Center field at Bloch Park honors Reece

A center field wall was unveiled at Bloch Park July 9 in honor of former recreation director Elton Reece. The wall replaced a wall that was blown down during a hurricane over a decade before.

Local football players go on college tour

Fifteen football players from Selma, Dallas County, Southside, Ellwood Christian and Keith took part in a football tour organized by Selma head football coach Leroy Miles, who is also a Dallas County School Board member. The players went to camps at the University of Memphis, Middle Tennessee University and the University of Georgia.

 

Three local players, coach participate in all-star game

Southside’s Charles Price and Keith’s Harriet Winchester and John Pettway took part in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s all-star game on July 21. Dallas County head coach Willie Moore also coached in the game.

 

Selma O-Zone team finishes third in state tournament

The 11-and-12 year-old all-star team made it to the semifinals of the state tournament in Troy before falling in back-to-back games. The team made it farther in the state tournament than any other O-Zone baseball team in the history of Selma.

 

Keith adds baseball team

Keith Middle/High School added a baseball team for the first time since the 1990s and will take the field this spring.

 

Meadowview moves to 6-man football

Meadowview Christian announced Aug. 7 that the school would participate in 6-man football this year, citing low participation in summer workouts. The Trojans made the state semifinals in their first year playing 6-man.

 

Morgan’s Free qualifies for Drive, Chip, Putt at Augusta

Morgan Academy’s Jones Free, 12, qualified for the National Drive, Chip and Putt contest at Augusta National on April 3, 2016 on the Sunday before The 2016 Masters Tournament gets underway.
