The Rotary Club will be celebrating 100 years of civic service in Selma in late February.
The Rotary Club of Selma, a local chapter of an international service organization that has been serving the Selma area since June of 1916, will be hosting its 100th anniversary celebration at the George Patrick Evans Reception Hall on Feb. 25.
“This is going to be a really special occasion for a civic club to celebrate 100 years,” said Rev. Dr. McNair Ramsey, immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Selma. “It’s quite an event to celebrate.”
Tickets to the event are $40 per person or $75 per couple and are available at The Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce as well as through local Rotarians.
Ramsey said he is expecting no more than 250 guests because it is a limited event. The evening will commence with a reception and cash bar from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Dinner will immediately follow the reception.
“We just want everybody to come out and celebrate with us because it’s a big deal that we’ve been here 100 years,” said Manera Saloom Searcy, Rotary Club of Selma president.
Special presentations and events will occur throughout the night, including slide presentations. Guest speaker Barry Cavan, district governor elect of district 6880 from the Rotary Club of Montgomery, will also speak.
“He is a very good speaker and really entertaining,” Searcy said. “I think he will be enjoyable.”
Ramsey said the slide presentations will highlight the local chapter throughout its history.
Ramsey said there will be some entertainment during the evening, but those details haven’t been finalized yet.
Searcy said tickets will be available for purchase within the next couple of weeks as soon as final details are made.
