The Selma Saints were outsized near the net, and one of their top interior players, Areyana Williams, found herself in foul trouble early. Like Selma has managed to do all season, the Saints found a way to win.

Two Selma guards scored in double digits to lift the Saints (18-2) past the Paul Bryant Stampede 60-46 Tuesday at Selma. Jacquetta Dailey led the way with 16 points and Kynadra Lewis added 12 points in a game that quickly got

After a back-and-forth start to the game, a Jamya Smith 3-pointer put Saints in front 22-19 with 5:20 left in the first half. With just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Dailey strolled down the court on a fastbreak and finished with a layup to take a 29-23 lead.

To give Selma one last push of momentum heading into halftime, Naquashia Smith drained a 3-pointer to put the Saints in front 32-23.

Smith hit with back-to-back 3-pointers in the third quarter, the second of which was a result of defenders leaving her wide open in the corner for a shot that has become routine for her this season.

After the Saints took a 40-23 lead with Smith’s third 3-pointer of the game, Selma was able to cruise to victory.

“We played pretty sound,” said Selma head coach Anthony Harris. “We still need to learn how to box out.”

Paul Bryant 58, Selma 48 (Boys)

Paul Bryant began the first half on a 12-0 run. Selma began the second half on a 10-0 run. It was a tale of two halves, but the Saints couldn’t ultimately dig themselves out of a first-half hole.

Selma’s Kentravious White knocked down five 3-pointers as the Saints (9-11) fell short of a comeback against the Paul Bryant Stampede Tuesday at Selma 58-48. Down 32-19 at halftime, the deficit proved too much to overcome as Selma never held a lead throughout the game.

“They hustled. They didn’t stop,” said Selma head coach Woodie Jackson.

Selma’s Marshall Woods scored his only points of the night on a two-point jumper that halted a 12-0 Paul Bryant opening spurt.

Quentavious Davis, who led Selma with 18 points, cut into the Saints’ deficit when he nailed a 3-pointer to force the Paul Bryant lead to 14-8 with 2:12 left in the first quarter.

Right as the clock hit zero on the first quarter, Paul Bryant’s Kameron Swift laid down a dunk that gave the Stampede a 16-8 lead.

With the Saints trailing by 13 at halftime, Jackson knew he had to deliver a strong message to his players.

“You’ve got to believe in yourself,” Jackson said. “Anything you do, it starts with yourself.”

The Saints came out of the locker room making 10 unanswered points, capped off by a White 3-pointer.

After narrowing the score to 38-31, Davis connected on a three-point play to cut the Paul Bryant lead to four.

White cut the lead to three in the fourth quarter, but Selma came up short.

“We can beat them,” Jackson said. “There’s no doubt about it. And we’re going to beat them.”
