Dallas County will be graced with warmer temperatures and sunshine this weekend, but it won’t last long.

Rain creeps into the forecast Sunday night, and severe weather is expected in central Alabama on Tuesday. From Tuesday afternoon to Tuesday night, there is a possibility of tornadoes, damaging winds and hail.

Jason Holmes, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Birmingham, said the details of the storm are still being worked out since it is still a few days away, but Dallas County residents should prepare for severe weather Tuesday.

“We are concerned that a very warm, humid and stable air mass will be in place, and there is enough wind shear depicted that would help to form strong to severe thunderstorms,” Holmes said.

Holmes said there is a chance of tornadoes forming Tuesday in central Alabama.

“There’s definitely the potential in there for a few stronger tornadoes,” Holmes said. “It’s just a really good time for families and businesses to review the weather safety plans and just be aware and stay close to a good source of information.”

In the meantime, the weekend won’t feel like winter. Holmes said the highs Saturday and Sunday are expected to be in the 60s.

There is a 20 percent chance of showers Sunday night and throughout the day Monday. On Tuesday, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. These numbers are subject to change over the weekend.

The warm weather is expected to stick around through Monday and Tuesday, but after the storm passes through, a cold front is expected to return.

Temperatures will drop to the 50s Wednesday, and Holmes said there might even be a light freeze Wednesday night.
