Basketball roundup: Meadowview girls, Selma boys eliminated

The Meadowview Christian Trojans’ season came to an end on the road Thursday in a 50-44 loss to Victory Baptist in the sub-state round of the Alabama Christian Athletic Association’s Division I varsity girls state basketball tournament. Playing on its home court, Victory Baptist hit 28 free throws while Meadowview made seven.

Meadowview trailed 28-19 at halftime and couldn’t completely close the gap at the end. Mallory Freine led the Trojans with 15 points, Hannah Thornton put up 10 points and Christina Dabit added nine points.

 

Hillcrest 62, Selma 35 (boys)

The Selma Saints saw their season end Thursday night against Hillcrest at Paul Bryant in the first round of the class 6A, area 6 tournament. Selma’s one-point second quarter contributed to a big loss, as the Saints fell 62-35.

Kentravious White led Selma with 11 points and Quentavious Davis scored eight points.

“We knew they were going to play man-to-man, so we had a lot man quick-hitting plays scripted, but we just couldn’t make any shots,” said Selma head coach Woodie Jackson.
