Five Meadowview Christian Trojans basketball players were named to the Alabama Christian Athletic Association’s all-star teams this week.
Meadowview’s Mallory Freine and Christina Dabit made the girls team and Justin McGuire, Jevar McGuire and Sam Dabit made the boys team. The all-star games will be played Saturday at Tuscaloosa Christian.
“When we needed a big bucket, they were definitely the leaders of the team,” Meadowview girls coach Lebo Jones said of Freine and Dabit.
Freine averaged around 16 points per game and Dabit was right behind her in scoring this season, Jones said. The team finished the regular season 12-7.
“They’ve been together a lot of years and they knew where each other was on the court all the times,” Jones said.
On the boys’ side, the two McGuire brothers and Dabit, a sharpshooter, pushed the Trojans to the brink of the ACAA state title game. Meadowview lost to Union Chapel 86-71 in the state semifinals.
Meadowview boys coach John Robert Morton said having three players make the all-star team shows how talented many of the players are for the Trojans.
“Depth we might lack, but talent we don’t lack,” Morton said.
Brothers Justin and Jevar led Meadowview in scoring. Justin played point guard and had the ball in his hands a lot, while Jevar was a force on the inside.
Dabit seemed to hit big shots when Meadowview needed him the most, including making three consecutive 3-pointers in the final two minutes during the Trojans’ 11-point rally against Tuscaloosa Christian in January.
The Meadowview boys finished the regular season 17-9.
The girls’ all-star game will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The boys’ all-star game will tip off following the girls’ game.
