Mrs. Gertrude Jackson

Mrs. Gertrude Jackson, 89, resident of Selma, Alabama passed away December 26, 2010 at home. Services are scheduled for December 30, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Freedom Baptist Church officiated by Rev. James Spicer, Sr. Burial will follow in New Sister Spring Cemetery directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gertrude Jackson was born in Beatrice, Alabama to the late Mr. Will Odom and Lela Mollette on March 28, 1921. While a young lady, Mrs. Jackson united with the New Sister Spring Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend A.C. Cosby. Subsequently, while residing with her daughter Mrs. Jackson became a dually enrolled member of both Freedom Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend James Spicer, SR. and New Sister Spring Baptist Church.
She has a beautiful smile; an indomitable spirit. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her three children, Dorothy Willis, John Hardy, Jr., and Margaret Hardy; Three grandchildren, Delta (Cedrone) Hodges, Deborah Willis, and Stacy Bentley; two great grandchildren, Jalia Redd ,Stacy Redd; two stepchildren, Denise Hardy, Gail Hardy; beloved caretaker and companion Jacqueline Young, beloved caretaker, Jessica Garrett.
Mrs. Jackson also leaves to cherish her memory former beloved caretakers, Rosalyn Ghant, Mary Ann Stewart, Carrie Barlow; special friends & relatives, Elizabeth Taylor (Columbus, Ohio), Arthur and Lorraine Capers, Hank Sanders, Faya Rose Toure, Sadie Moss, Josephine Ellis,Twanya Dixon, Jule Perrin, Sabrina Seay, Jessica Perkins, Alice Hayes, Eliza Burns, Johnnie Leashore, Anna Jones, John Sallie & Family, Charles Vaughan & Family, Clara Brewton, Ora Smith, Odessa Grant, and a host of other relatives and friends.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Asera Care Hospice, Selma in honor of
Mrs. Jackson.
