Meadowview Christian’s Mason Kendrick rounded third base as if the Trojans’ season was on the line. Running full speed, Kendrick dove underneath the catcher for Victory-Mississippi and reached for home plate.

Kendrick was called out on the play and Meadowview Christian’s baseball season ended with the call. The Trojans lost both of their games Monday to Victory Christian out of Columbus, Mississippi and saw their slim playoff hopes come to an end with the defeats.

Victory won the first game 19-1 and the second contest 11-2.

Coach Lebo Jones, who is filling in for head coach Scott Gunter, said he was proud of the way his team fought until the end.

“We played hard. We just played against a team that was a lot older,” Jones said. “We’ve got a really young team, and they were a good team. They were in the finals last year of our association.”

The Trojans couldn’t get much going in either game, but took the lead early in game two when Tyler Sebren singled to score Chambers McGilberry.

The lead didn’t hold long.

Victory’s Cade Stacy singled to score Chase Gore to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning. Victory added four more runs in the first inning too.

Reed Fulgam had a 3 RBI single that was aided by a fielding error on the Trojans. Fulgam added another run when a steal attempt at second base allowed him to score from third.

At that point, the rout was on.

Victory added two more runs in the second inning, and four in the third. The Trojans added a second run in the fifth on a throwing error.

Jones said it was a positive year, despite the Trojans going 3-13. He said with all the youth on the team, he thinks Meadowview should have some talented teams in the future.

“The future is bright,” Jones said.
