Anne Parker Blackwell, age 57, died at Vaughan Regional Medical Center on Sunday, May 8, 2016. A service will be held at the columbarium of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, May 10 at 4 p.m.
Born May 31, 1958, in Tuscaloosa, she grew up in Selma with her parents, Elise Parker Faircloth Blackwell and the late William Dunham Blackwell III, and her sister, Julie Nesbitt. Anne attended the University of Alabama, where she graduated magna cum laude with bachelor’s degrees in both psychology and English, and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity as well as multiple honorary societies, including Phi Beta Kappa.
Her passion for animals and the humanities led her to work for numerous organizations in the community and in the arts and was a strong advocate for the ASPCA.
She is survived by the father of her children; Nicky, her two sons; Brooks and Walker; her mother, Elise Blackwell; her sister, Julie Nesbitt; and her two dogs, Eddie and Simone. Anne was a loving mother with a tremendous heart and an infectious personality. As stubborn as she was caring, Anne will be enormously missed by those who knew her. She leaves us with a great sense of loss but also with hope and faith that she is truly at peace.
