Elizabeth Curry Mayfield

Elizabeth Curry Mayfield was born August 14, 1934, and passed away May 9, 2016. She was the daughter of the late John and Ethel Curry. Elizabeth was a loving, dedicated educator in the Selma public school system for 36 years. She began her career and retired from teaching at Cedar Park Elementary School. She was a long-standing member of the Pride of Alabama Elks Temple 919, Alabama Retired Teachers Association, Versatiles Club and Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where she has been a member since 1962.
Elizabeth was loved by all who knew her. She met every challenge with courage and dignity. She was always humble and offered help to those in need. Elizabeth leaves to mourn one daughter, Iris (Antonio) Kirksey of Stockbridge, Georgia; the father of their daughter, Henry (Mamie) Mayfield of Chicago; one granddaughter, Ariel (Jerel) Withers of Hampton, Georgia; and grandchildren, Christian Brown, Natalie Withers and Kamryn Withers; two brothers, Thomas (Ann) Curry and Melvin Curry; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two beloved aunts, Annette Brooks and Lucy B. Smith; special friends, Doris Johnson, Jean Cunningham, Sadie Moss, the late Mamie Brown and the late Bernice Hamler Kirksey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jane D. Curry. Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery.
