The Selma Recreation Department has announced the finalized schedule for its summer programs, which will start a week later than originally planned.
The recreation department will open playgrounds at Byrd Elementary, Edgewood Elementary, Meadowview Elementary, Payne Elementary, Sophia P. Kingston Elementary and at the Youth Development Center throughout the summer. Starting on June 7, the playgrounds will be open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Tennis lessons will also begin June 7 at the city tennis courts. Lessons will be taught by longtime instructors Bernard Sewell and Clarence Moore.
The lessons will be held Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
On Mondays and Wednesdays, the lessons will be broken down by age group — ages 6-12 from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., ages 13-17 from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and ages 18 and up from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
On Saturdays, the lessons will be from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. and will be for all ages.
The lessons are broken down into two sessions — June 8-29 and July 6-27.
The city’s T-ball league, or cap league, will hold registration June 8-10 at the Complex from 8 a.m. until noon.
The league is for 4-year-olds and for older 3-year-olds.
No date was given for the opening day for the Dinkins Pool, but interim recreation director Lebo Jones said it will probably be June 7. Admission to the pool is $1 per person per session, with sessions being held Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m.-6p.m.
The pool is open to the public, except when swimming lessons are being conducted.
Swim lessons will be taught by American Red Cross water safety instructors on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 14-July 28.
The classes are broken down by age group. Classes for ages 3-5 will be held from 10:15 a.m.-10:45 a.m., ages 6-12 will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. and 13 and up will be held from 9 p.m. until 9:30 a.m.
The classes are free. Registration will be held at the Dinkins Pool June 9-10 from 9 a.m. until noon.
