Sabra Sanctuary will host a “Jane’s Attic Yard Sale” on Saturday to raise funds for the domestic violence shelter.
The event will be in remembrance of Jane Pollack, a board member and longtime supporter of the sanctuary who died in 2011.
Executive director Nancy Travis said she is happy Sabra will honor Pollack’s contribution to the organization.
“Jane was a very loyal supporter of Sabra Sanctuary. When she died, people gave money in her honor and her family donated all of her clothes to us,” Travis said.
The donations have been used to help victims of domestic violence in the Selma/Dallas County area.
Travis said she and others would forever remember Pollack as hard working and faithful.
“She was a very special lady and someone who was special to Sabra Sanctuary. She was devoted,” Travis said.
She said Pollack encouraged many others in the community to give back to Sabra Sanctuary as she did.
Saturday’s yard sale will include clothes, household products, furniture, books, toys and more.
“We thought this would be a good way to make money for the shelter and do it in her memory,” Travis said.
The sale will be held behind the Sabra Sanctuary office, which is located at 726 Dallas Ave. People are advised to enter through Selma Avenue. The yard sale will last from 7-11 a.m.
“There are some things that need to be done. We will use the money to make some repairs at the shelter,” Travis said.
Travis expects a large crowd to come out to the sale but does not have a specific monetary goal.
“Jane was a very good friend, and we all miss her so much. Sabra was her heart. We hope people come out and buy from the sale or just make a donation,” Travis said.
