The Selma Walton Theater is hoping to give children something to do during the summer by offering children’s movies every Thursday in June and July.

The Walton’s “Kids Summer Movie Blast” cost $5, which includes a small popcorn and small drink.

The event, now in its second year, kicked off Thursday with the movie “Minions” and a packed house that included kids from camps at Clark Elementary School and Tabernacle Church. Approximately 110 children attended.

CeCe Grayson with the Walton Theater said she was thrilled about the turnout.

“It is so exciting to see the look on these young children’s faces,” Grayson said. “You give them something to do in Selma. People are always saying that there’s nothing to do in Selma, but I beg to differ. There’s a lot to do, and we’re just adding to that.”

Barbara Blackmon brought her grandson Dalton Blackmon and said she was pleased the theater was offering to show the movies.

“I found out about the movie blast through Facebook. My grandson and I will make a special trip here on every Thursday,” Pierce said.

This week the Walton will be showing “The Good Dinosaur.”

Doors open Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., while the shows begin at 10 a.m. Concessions are available.
