Eugene Patrick “Pat”Harrison, and “Pops”, the Hamburger King, flipped his last burger on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. He peacefully departed this life while sleeping, flanked by his Brittney, Buddy and his bulldog Lucy. A chapel memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Leak-Memory Chapel with Rev. Charles Martin officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. Pat owned the “Hamburger King” restaurant in Montgomery, AL since March of 1970 and was deemed the “Best” by many, many people. He was always amazed that no matter where we went, even other cities and states, someone would recognize us. Our customers and friends came from all walks of life, but in the “Hamburger King” everyone talked together and visited with no bias. Pat was a baseball coach for many years and found true joy in helping many boys and young men find a love for the game. Pat was an eight year cancer survivor and during those years gave hope and inspiration to others who had been diagnosed with the disease. Pat had charisma and an infectious laugh which drew people to him. He loved his Lord, his family, his friends, his work, hunting, fishing, his horses and his dogs. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Pat was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Goodwin Harrison and his mother, Mildred McHugh. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Gay Douberley Harrison, who worked and played with him for over 31 years; his son, Hunter James Harrison, who he loved with all his heart; his son, Dr. E. Patrick Harrison (Laura), who he was extremely proud of; and a grandson, Hayes Harrison, who he thought was a fine young man; two loving aunts, Harriet Sobera of Selma, Al and Annie Lee McHugh of Orrville, AL. Honorary pallbearers will be all the people of Montgomery, Prattville, Wetumpka and the world who have eaten and loved his burgers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery Humane Society.
