Virginia (Ginny) Edwards Twilley was at her assisted living facility, Brookdale Historic Roswell in Roswell, Georgia, when she went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2016, at the age of 92.  Virginia was born in Selma to Frances Davis Edwards and Henry Calhoun Edwards on January 6, 1924. After graduating from high school and business school, she met and married Jesse Roland Twilley Jr. on September 13, 1947. They lived in Selma until relocating to Clanton in 1966.

Virginia was devoted to her causes. If there was a stray dog, take him in. If there was a hungry person, feed him. If there was a friend in need, provide generously. If prayers were needed, supplicate. And be sure to fly the flag, because that was the thing to do. If there was a need, volunteer and donate. Pick up a penny even if it meant stopping traffic. Virginia loved her volunteer work at First Baptist Church, The Chilton County Medical Center and The Chamber of Commerce. The Senior Connection group let her do what she loved: exercising, traveling and socializing. If your organization was raising funds, she was your go-to girl. Forever loyal, even in her last days, she was wearing her Auburn colors and said “War Eagle”. Traveling, working in the yard, playing tennis and walking were so fun to Virginia. Her career as homemaker, volunteer and community supporter was approached with diligence and dedication.

Virginia loved the Lord, and for that there is reason for celebration. Knowing that she has met Jesus and reunited with those who have gone before her, give her family and friends much comfort. Additionally, Virginia loved her family.  Her move to Roswell in 2008 was to be close to them. She provided much fun and inspiration and  leaves a rich legacy for each of them.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Roland Twilley Jr.; her parents, Fannie and Henry Edwards; and her brother, Thomas Calhoun Edwards. Surviving are her daughter, Lynn McWhorter (Grady) of Roswell; granddaughter Lindsey McWhorter Yoder (Chris) and great-grandchildren, Henry and Mary Yoder of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; grandson, Matthew Grady McWhorter (Ayong) and great- grandchildren, Grant and Dean McWhorter of Alpharetta, Georgia.

The family extends a special thank you to all the friends who were so faithful to support and encourage Virginia/Mom/ Ginny/ Nana through the years. A heartfelt gratitude goes to the caregivers at Brookdale Historic Roswell who faithfully cared for and loved on our family for almost five years.

You are invited to a celebration of Virginia Edwards Twilley’s life on Earth and eternal life in Heaven on Friday, June 10 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 210 6th Street N. in Clanton. The family will receive friends before the service at 12:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church sanctuary. Burial will follow at the New Live Oak Cemetery, located at 110 West Dallas Avenue in Selma. Let us all praise God for His promise of eternal life for all who believe in Him. Virginia did that!
