All in Sports Outreach hosted a basketball camp in Selma last June, the first event for the nonprofit. A year later the organization has grown and is continuing its work in Selma with a basketball camp, football camp and concert in late June.

The ministry will host a concert on June 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church that will include Christian artists Jahmaol Clark, Rockstar JT and Big Yae. On June 27-30, All in Sports will host a basketball camp at two locations and a football camp at Southside High School.

The basketball camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day at R.B. Hudson Middle School’s gymnasium and at the lot between Selma Avenue and St. Johns Street. The football camp will also be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Both camps are for students ages 6-18.

“We will divide them up and go through drills but also do timeout talks,” said Stewart Hardy with All in Sports. “We have picked four Biblical characters that we are going to talk about each day, someone that had shortcomings and were given a second chance and really took advantage of the second chance they were given.”

The organization’s mission is to use sports as an outlet to spread teachings from the Bible.

Since last year’s basketball camp, All in Sports has hosted a baseball camp, softball camp and held a coat drive during the Christmas season. In March, the ministry held a prayer breakfast with former college football coach Tommy Bowden at the St. James Hotel.

“When we did the basketball camp last year, we really thought we were just going to be doing a basketball camp,” said Stewart Hardy with All in Sports. “God just provided resources and people and coaches and the community has rallied behind us.”

All in Sports does most of its work through sports, but Hardy said music is another way to bring people together.

“We feel like when your outside with music and food you set aside any barriers that separates people and just hang out and have a good time,” Hardy said.
