A 23-year-old Selma man is wanted in connection to a shooting that left one dead Sunday afternoon.

Vardarius Hall, 23, is wanted on murder charges and is considered armed and dangerous, according to the Selma Police Department.

Selma Police Chief John Brock said investigators speculate Hall and Lowndesboro resident Jermaine Tarver, 27, were playing cards at Towns Circle in the police jurisdiction when the two men got into an altercation over personal property.

“Mr. Hall pulled a handgun and shot Mr. Tarver multiple times,” Brock said.

Authorities said Tarver was shot five to seven times, mostly in the upper torso area. He was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. Tarver was pronounced dead in the hospital’s emergency room.

“We’ve got active murder warrants on Mr. Hall as a class A felony,” Brock said. “The quicker we can get him into custody the better off so the family can start the [healing] process.”

Investigators believe Hall may have fled the Selma area.

The homicide is Selma’s eighth in 2016. The most recent two occurred in the police jurisdiction of Selmont.

On March 7, T.J. Shelton, 29, and A.J. Lee, 27, were killed near the intersection of Marie Foster Street and Selma Avenue. Investigators believe the car  they were riding in was possibly targeted. No arrests have been made in the double homicide.

Two weeks later, Christopher McNeil, 35, was shot by his brother-in-law on College Drive over what police described as a domestic dispute. Sandy Rhodes has been charged with murder in the case.

The last day of March, Selma High School senior Cedric Williams was shot and killed overnight on the 2500 block of Etheridge Avenue. Police have not made an arrest in the case.

Three days later, Byron O’Neal McDonald, 27, was shot and killed overnight on the 100 block of South Maxey Street. The case remains unsolved.

On April 16, Quienten D. “Lubo” Thomas, 37, died after being hospitalized for almost two weeks. Thomas was shot in an overnight drive-by shooting at the intersection of U.S. 80 and Alabama 41 that also critically injured another man. Ken Prevo, Xavier Waller and Corey Pullom have been charged with capital murder.

On April 30, Teresa J. Petersen, 40, and Marty Joe Ramsey, 50, died inside a home on L.L. Anderson in what investigators described as a “domestic violence shooting.” The Selma Police Department has not officially ruled the case a murder-suicide but said no additional suspects are wanted.

On May 18, Taveres Serdarro Peasant, 26, died after being shot while sitting inside a car park in a driveway on Cummings Circle. Carloyd De’Edward Moss, 21, was arrested within 24 hours and charged with capital murder.

CORRECTION: The Selma Police Department classifies the murder of Antoine Stallworth as a 2015 homicide. Stallworth was shot on New Year’s Eve, an innocent bystander caught in a shootout at GWC Homes. He died six days later at a Montgomery hospital. Five suspects were eventually arrested and charged with murder or attempted murder in a string of holiday shootings. There were nine homicides worked by SPD and two worked by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department in 2015.
