An 18-year-old man is recovering after being shot in the leg while playing basketball Thursday evening.
Police responded to a call of a gunshot victim at the Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s emergency room.
The victim was shot once in the right leg. He was later released from the hospital after being treated for with non-life threatening injuries.
Selma Police Department investigators said the victim was playing basketball at a court on the 1200 block of Union Street around 7 p.m. when the shooting occurred.
“He was walking off the court when a man suddenly pulled his gun and fired a shot,” said Detective Ronald Jones. “He looked down to his right leg where he felt pain.”
The victim was then transported to the hospital by private vehicle.
Jones said the victim apparently did not know the shooter.
“We talked to several witnesses out there but they couldn’t ID [the suspect],” Jones said.
