Michael Johnson’s foundation and other businesses from around Selma came together again Saturday to host a Family Fun Day at Wallace Community College Selma.

Along with Johnson’s football and cheer camp in the spring, the fun fest has become an annual event that many in the community look forward to. While Johnson and the many activities are the draw, the foundation makes sure to find ways for the festival to help the community each year.

Johnson again partnered with the Selma Area Food Bank this year. Admission to the festival was simple. Each guest was asked to bring one non-perishable food item, and although that sounds like it isn’t much, one can of mixed vegetables, corn or green beans can really go a long way.

Jeff Harrison, executive director of the Selma Area Food Bank, detailed how far that one canned item will go.

Harrison said that the Selma Area Food Bank serves 48 agencies, which then branch out to help thousands.

“Each agency we serve will have an effect in a month’s time on 1500 to 2500 families easily and that’s just one out of 48,” Harrison said.

We want to thank everyone with Johnson’s foundation for helping to organize the event again this year. Not only did it help benefit a worthy cause, but it also helped put a smile on the faces of the dozens of children that took part.
