The five candidates for mayor of Selma will discuss issues facing the city during an election forum Sunday afternoon.
The event is being hosted by One Selma and will begin at 3 p.m. at Selma High School’s auditorium.
The debate will be moderated by Darryl Hood, an anchor for WAKA News.
“This is for Selma … Who do you chose,” said the Rev. Jerry Light, who is helping organize the forum with Juanda Maxwell and others.
Auburn University’s Bridgett A. King, an assistant professor in the department of political science, is compiling questions for the debate. Members of the public could submit questions last month online and over Facebook. Greg Bjelke, George Evans, Jerria Martin, Darrio Melton and James Perkins are running for mayor.
Maxwell said the forum is a community effort.
“This is really a community effort,” Maxwell said. “This is not just about a few people.”
Maxwell thanked King and Hood for helping with the forum as well as the Links of Selma and Selma-Dallas County Leadership Class XXII.
The Links of Selma are planning a council president and council forum that would begin about 5:30 p.m. at the mayoral event.
