George Clemons Chance

George Clemons Chance passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at his home.

He was born May 9, 1937, to Gilbert G. Chance Sr. and Bessie Godwin Mobley who predeceased him as did his in-laws Arthur and Viola Talbert.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Agnes Talbert Chance; children, Art (Lisa) Chance, Chip (Tammy) Chance and Liz (Tommy) Smith. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Johnny Chance; and sisters, Ann Pendley, Amanda Bolton and Faye Lynn Arnold. Chance also leaves behind his little buddy down the street, Grant Arrington.

Chance, a lifelong resident of Dallas County, served Selma and the surrounding community for 48 years with his floor covering business until his retirement in 2012.

He also served as a deacon at Westwood Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held at New Live Oak Cemetery on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Eaton officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 10 – 10:45 a.m.

The pallbearers will be grandsons Hunter Chance, Thomas Smith and Jacob Chance; nephews Al Pendley and Pearson Talbert; and friend Jim Ellis.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, those who wish to make an expression of condolence contribute to the American Cancer Society or Westwood Baptist Church.
