A Selma man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend multiple times.
Joshua Pernell, 36, was arrested Monday morning and charged one count of third-degree assault in the attack. Pernell was given a $30,000 bond and has since made bail.
Police responded to a call Monday morning about an assault on Martin Luther King Street.
Sgt. Evelyn Ghant said the victim, a 36-year-old, was stabbed multiple times in the arm and thigh regions.
Investigators believe Parnell and the victim were in a dispute over money.
“[The] witness did advise that when she came out [of the residence], is when she said Parnell stabbed her,” Ghant said. “At this time, we are still trying to further the investigation.”
Ghant said Pernell was still at the site of the stabbing when officers arrived. Pernell was brought into custody and was arrested after questioning.
Ghant said the victim was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center by ambulance. She was treated and later released.
