Be aware as school starts

Most students will start back to school on Monday, meaning the remaining days left in summer break are dwindling quickly.
While area children try to enjoy their last few hours of summer break, parents are busy trying to make sure they’ve got all the supplies they need. Next week will be a stressful time for anyone with a school-aged child in their home, but it’s also important anyone driving near school zones pays attention.
Drivers will need to look for students standing at bus stops, at crosswalks or even on sidewalks on their way to school.
It’s easy to get comfortable during the summer months and drive through school zones without much of a second thought, but on Monday that will change.
Everybody is in a hurry to get to work, to get their day started and to make sure they aren’t late. In today’s hustle and bustle, technology dominated world, there’s always somewhere to be and always a distraction nearby.
On Monday and throughout the school year, we urge drivers to slow down in school zones and to keep their eyes open for children, who are liable to be anywhere and everywhere.
The school year is only days from getting underway. In the meantime, let’s make sure our children understand the dangers of being in roadways or playing at bus stops.
For the rest of us, let’s slow down to ensure the safety of our children.
