Hard to keep up with all supply giveaways

There have been so many back to school events in Selma in recent weeks that it’s hard to keep up with just how many there have been.
Churches, nonprofits and the police department have all organized school supply giveaways to ensure students have everything they need when they hit the classroom this year. Others, like Teamwork Barber Shop owner Nathaniel Johnson, volunteered to cut hair Wednesday in Orrville.
It’s encouraging to see so many people willing to give back to our schoolchildren this year. Statistics have shown that children do better in the classroom when they have the supplies they need.
Incredibly, there is still at least one more school supply giveaway to come.
The Selma Police Department is hosting its Back to School Festival/COPS and Kids Day at Bloch Park Saturday atom 10 a.m. to 1p.m. Supplies will be distributed directly to children in grades K-12 on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.
With school starting Monday, Saturday’s event is a great opportunity to get supplies.
The community has been extremely giving this year as our children get ready to go back to school. That’s an encouraging sign, considering our children are the key to Selma’s future.
