We wish students, teachers, administrators the best of luck this year

Today marks the last day of summer for most area students. If it seems like summer went by quickly, that’s because it did.
We want to be among the first to wish all of our local children good luck this school year. Of course, maybe we should be wishing all of the parents luck. Waking children up for the first time Monday morning figures to be a tall task.
In fact, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to wake up a little earlier Monday, just so parents can make sure they have enough time to get their children ready and aren’t late for work.
Remember to slow down in school zones this upcoming week too. Traffic will pickup around 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. near all of our schools, so leave a little earlier if you have to be somewhere around those times.
Sunday also marks the final day of tax-free weekend in Alabama and one final chance to get any school supplies or clothes that students need before what is sure to be a busy Monday morning.
We’re sure most parents have the majority of their children’s school clothes and supplies purchased by now — at least we hope so — but anyone still needing last minute items should look at Selma’s local stores before heading off to Montgomery.
The start of a new school year is an exciting time. We wish the best to students, teachers and administrators as they begin the new year on Monday morning.
