Turnovers plagued Meadowview Christian in jamboree defeats Friday night to New Life Christian and Ballard Christian.
New Life defeated Meadowview 12-6 (check) and Ballard, using a spread offense, beat the Trojans 14-0. Zack Duke scored the only touchdown of the night for Meadowview.
The Trojans fumbled close to the goal line against Ballard and also had drives stopped against New Life due to turnovers. Meadowview Christian head coach Lebo Jones said the games went by fast due to 12 minute continuous quarters, so the Trojans barely had the ball.
“It was good to play a game situation but there wasn’t really enough time to get anything going,” Jones said. “I think we should’ve won the first game. We fumbled three times. I think just nervous jitters for the young kids who are playing.”
Meadowview opens its regular season next week against Victory Christian from Columbus, Mississippi in an 8-man game. Although it’ll be a regular season game, it won’t count for or against the Trojans in the playoff race, since the Trojans are playing primarily 6-man football this year.
“We just use these games as a measuring stick to see where we are,” Jones said. “We saw some bright spots but we also saw we have a lot to work on.”
